From SMK Sungai Manggis to United States of America
How far would you go to motivate Malaysian students who are financially challenged to study well and keep them interested in lessons at school?
Well, a friend of mine has gone to a distance that not many would have thought was possible. Oga has walked an extra mile (more like a million miles actually), by offering 10 deserving students in her classes the priceless opportunity to visit USA.
We’re talking about students who may have never even been out of the compound of their villages, and first knew where America was when Teacher Oga brought the world map to their classroom.
During a time when what matters most to most of us is career progression, i.e., earning more money, how many among us have actually gone the extra mile for someone else?
I was truly overwhelmed, and completely inspired when I first heard about her effort. And I pledged to her that I will help her in every possible way within my own boundaries and limits.
At the moment, we’re having initial contact with companies to form a partnership, just to ease the financial burden that we’re having to make this dream a realization.
All I can ask for is from you now is that you take a minute to visit her page and keep yourselves updated with the progression of this project. If you can, please do contribute to us. But essentially, what we need from all of you is some support.
I’m so thankful for having the privilege of educating the kids alongside awesome Teacher Oga at SMK Sg. Manggis, although it’s merely for 2 weeks. But I know I’ll continuously contribute to this project, to help make this really amazing dream come true.
There’s so much more to life than climbing up the corporate ladder, saving up to be a millionaire and to be established. If that’s your motivation in life, then it’s fine. But sometimes you just have to open yourself up to many possibilities, like making a difference in the lives of fellow Malaysian, especially the future generation. Be inspired, and inspire others.
